“Freaked, juddering electronic punk.”
The Wire
Someone has described Avalanche Kaito’s music as “grrriot_punk_noise”. Burkinabe singer Kaito Winse, the guardian of the ancestral griot tradition, rubs shoulders with the multiform approaches of drummer and “pure dataïst” Benjamin Chaval and anarcho-guitarist Nico Gitto in an explosive combination. The project seems in many ways unique in the musical landscape, managing to combine both a seductive trance power and a wicked experimental side.
In contrast to any idea of fusion, the project is a mid-air collision between the deep roots of the last born of a family of Burkinabé griots, and the daring sound and formal research of the drummer and guitarist, shaped during their years of exploration within the Brussels experimental scene. The link between all this? Something quite intangible: energy.
Since their dazzling live debut in 2021, Avalanche Kaito has released two LPs and an EP, all on Glitterbeat, and performed almost 150 concerts all over Europe, including Roskilde Festival, Colours of Ostrava, Fusion Festival, FMM Sines, End of the road, Supersonic, Dour, Tremor, ESNS and WOMEX. The Wire, Songlines, The Quietus and KEXP are some of their allies in the media.
